We will provide an update kit that includes Your selected pages to insert. Heavy grey card to cut on. Strips of paper to protect your book from excess glue. Bottle of glue. Brush. Small cutting blade. .....................You will require a ruler and tissues or clean cloth.
Basic method : We do not remove the pages completely as that would weaken the sewing and the book. We cut out a page and leave a small 1/2 inch 10mm strip protruding. We then glue the insert page to that strip. The method is quite simple if you follow the instructions. We have included some pics to help you see exactly what is required.
Step 1. Cutting out pages
A quick check that you have everything and look through your book as to the pages that are to be replaced.
I like to lay the new insert pages a little away from my actual work area to keep them away from glue and possible accidents. "Even the Master bookbinders tip over bottles of glue now and then". A good work place that is clean is a good start. Like a table top or uncluttered desk top. I would start on a less significant page until I have the hang of it. One further up the back for example and not your main title page first.
Lay your book in front of you.
Open to first page for insert process
The thick grey card is only to stop you cutting into other pages below.
Place thick card strip under the page to be removed and into the grove close in as you can get.
Hold ruler, watch fingers protruding, gentle cut along edge. You can also use the small blade enclosed for that as well.
Now that wasn't so hard was it. I hope you still have all your fingers. Just be careful on that issue please. Blades should be extremely sharp and do not allow for any lapses of concentration.
You can go through and cut out all your pages first and leave the messy glueing till later. Just put a strip in each page as a place holder for later.
